“Have you come to remember – or to forget ?”
With this opening question begins the piece which invites the visitors to take part in a culinary experience that offers the opportunity to reflect on their relationship with memory. According to ancient traditional belief it is possible through internalizing foodfollowing particular rituals to bring past experiences back to life. By digesting these events the eater is empowered to metaphorically become the experience and at the same time truly let go of the past.
For the performance the visitor chooses from specially prepared cookies which enable the process of memorizing and forgetting. Depending on their choice the visitor is then led from the waiting room into another secluded space where a chair is waiting by an open window. Here every participant is invited to sit down, surrender to the process and allow memories to flow in their own time before rejoining the waiting area.
The artists are kindly asking the visitor to leave the experiences they are remembering and forgetting written or drawn on white cards laid out in the space. They are safeguarding the experiences to remember and burning the ones to forget.
